Shreya R is an Academic Associate in the Interdisciplinary Studies department at MICA, Ahmedabad. She completed her Masters in Cultural Studies from Christ (deemed to be) University, Bangalore. Her capstone project was in the area of food studies, and she focused on the ingredient gathering practices and wild food narratives surrounding the preparation of Tambuli, a local Karnataka dish. Shreya has a BA from Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts, with a major in English Literature and minors in Film Studies and History. Her dissertation was in the area of fandom studies, where she studied the role of the fan community and the active reader/writer in fanfiction narratives.

Shreya’s recent research explores the urban foodways of Bangalore. She looks at the hyper-local food retail store, Mangalore Stores, and the interlinkages of ideas like gastro-nostalgia, authenticity, and migration in the place-making strategies of both the store and its customers. Shreya hopes to pursue her PhD in the field of urban studies, exploring how a city and its public transport can co-create each other.
